A Wife's Love

Granny loved Pa with all her heart
and in the end___ he broke it apart
he passed on, he had to go___
She missed him mighty. mighty so___

Two weeks of tears, she joined him; so sad___
A funeral filled with loving memories we had
Fried chicken from the pen every Sunday dinner
Leftovers so fine for supper___ a winner!

Sixty years of sharing life___
Through tenderness and strife___
Eight babies, good times and bad___
Hard times a plenty, good ones had......

I am going to be like Granny, sassy and wise
Great cook and quilter, early to bed and rise
Gardening with an old white mule Pa steered
Canning a harvest for a winter snow-geared...

She never cursed, just kept Pa so busy
He did not have time to argue or get dizzy___
Did everything he could to please his wife
Because he loved her more than life___

Granny Rose worked hard to
please Pa Tillman, too
simple hard work and no complaining,
she would coo
I love you's in actions, never an
argument 'tween them
Eyes locked with sparkles; hearts on
fire on a whim.

In that big old house under the rusty tin roof
God was present, a love without goof
Hotter than the wood stove, I admired it so
Reflecting on a wife's love in my garden with the hoe.

I feel Granny guiding me down the paths here
in the garden pulling up the weeds, calling me dear
in the journey of life, example is the key
Prompting me to be the sugar in my hubby's ice tea!

Dedicated to my Pa Tillman Moorehead & Granny Rose Reed Moorehead who lived and died farming in Moore County, Tennessee.
He stirred the wood stove and never let it die to keep Granny warm.  He toted out her "potty" pot every morning, dumped it in the outhouse, and cleaned it out and tucked it back under her bed.  He never, ever complained.
Granny raised, killed chickens, put them in the freezer, and prepared them so the entire extended family could have Sunday dinner at her home, along with all the veggies, pickles, and goodies she had canned.
Took baths from a drawn bath.  I know God blessed them both.  I thank Him for blessing me with them showing me how to love.
On their fiftyith anniversary we had the entire clan of generations in our home.  It snowed at least 3 feet deep, but everyone showed up.
